Champion of Champions Tournament 2013

Welcome to the Champion of Champions Tournament. Today I will matchup five champions and determine who is the champion of champions.

First I will start with the #5 seed, the champions from the NFL. The Seattle Seahawks finished their season 16-3 with an 84.2% winning percentage.

Second is the #4 seed, the champions from the Hammer Bowl, The Oklahoma Sooners finished their season 13-2 with an 86.6% winning percentage. Please note that those stats include the two games they played in this seasons Hammer Tournament.

Next we have a 3 way tie for the coveted #1 seed. In alphabetical order they are:

The champions from NCAA Division I football, the Florida State Seminoles, finished their season 14-0 with a 100% winning percentage.

The champions from Junior College football, the East Mississippi Lions, finished their season 12-0 with a 100% winning percentage.

The champions from NCAA Division II football, the Northwest Missouri State Bearcats, finished their season 15-0 with a 100% winning percentage.

Now that you have been introduced to the 5 teams let’s start by breaking up that 3 way tie. Champions of Champions rules state that in the event of a pre-seeding tie the tie will be broken by comparing the point differential from all winning games added together then divided by the total number of games played (rounded to the nearest whole number.

I crunch the numbers on that and Florida State receives 0.395 additional points, East Mississippi receives 0.525 additional points, and Northwest Missouri State receives 0.280 additional points. This additional data make the pre-seeding standings look like this:

#1 JCC – East Mississippi (1.52500 pre-seeding points)

#2 DI – Florida State (1.39500 pre-seeding points)

#3 DII – Northwest Missouri State (1.28000 pre-seeding points)

#4 HBC – Oklahoma (0.86667 pre-seeding points)

#5 NFL – Seattle (0.84211 pre-seeding points)

The first three games on the 2013 Champion of Champions Tournament will be as follows:

#4 HBC – Oklahoma will host #5 NFL – Seattle at Norman, OK in the Wild Card Round

The winner of the Wild Card Round will play host to #1 JC – East Mississippi in the first Semifinal game that will take place in Scooba, MS

#2 DI – Florida State will host #3 DII – Northwest Missouri State at Tallahassee, FL in the second Semifinal game

The winner of the #1 JC – East Mississippi Vs Wild Card Champions and the winner of #2 DI – Florida State Vs #3 DII – Northwest Missouri State will play each other in Champion of Champions Bowl III at East Rutherford, NJ (site of this year’s Super Bowl).

Let’s begin the simulation for the Wild Card Game:

Both teams go into the half tied at 13 after they both miss extra points after a touchdown. However Seattle pulls ahead in the second half. Seattle upsets Oklahoma in the Wild Card round and advances to play the Junior College Champion in the second Semifinal game.

Let’s begin the simulation for the 1st of 2 Semifinal Games:

As you can see my simulation does like to embellish on scores. But that is ok. After an Offensive powerhouse display in the first quarter Florida State takes the lead and keeps the lead as they defeat The Division II Champion in a high scoring game. Florida State advances to Hammer Bowl III and will play the winner of the second Semifinal game that will take place next.

Let’s begin the simulation for the 2nd Semifinal Game:

I’ll say it again: my simulation likes to embellish final scores. After trailing at the end of the first quarter East Mississippi goes on to score an unprecedented 50 unanswered points against the Lombardi Trophy holders and a Junior College defeats the NFL Champions. WOW!

And now it is time to simulate Champion of Champions Bowl III. The Hammer Bowl Champion, the NCAA DII Champion, & the NFL Champion were all defeated and now we are left with two. The Junior College Champion Vs the NCAA DI Champion will go head to head in this years Championship.

Let’s begin the simulation for Champion of Champions Bowl III:

A total of 89 points are scored in the 1st quarter alone as for the 3rd straight year in a row the Champions of Junior College Football once again defeat all the other champions. It would appear by the box score that Florida State never stood a chance as East Mississippi stands victorious 63-51.

Congratulations to East Mississippi for taking home this year’s Champion of Champions Trophy.
