Welcome to the second Semifinal game of Hammer Tournament XIII. So far was have seen Southwestern Oklahoma State defeat Northeastern Oklahoma A&M in the Wild Card round and advance to play Oklahoma in this game. We have also seen Central Missouri upset the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead and become the first #3 seed team in Hammer Tournament history to punch their ticket to the Hammer Bowl (Championship). UCM is currently on their way to the Rose Bowl (site of Hammer Bowl XIII) and will play the winner of the game being played today. If the highly favored Oklahoma Sooners win then it will be #1 Vs #3 in the Championship. However if SWOSU pulls off the upset today then UCM will become the automatic favorite to win the Championship. Although this will be UCM’s 3rd trip to the Championship they have never been favored to win.
Oklahoma wins the toss and elects to receive against Southwestern Oklahoma State. This is the 4th time OU and SWOSU have met in the Hammer Tournament. The first two meeting were shutouts in favor of OU. In 2006 OU won 13 to 0 and in 2007 OU won 22 to 0. Then last year when OU and SWOSU met in the Semifinals OU defeated SWOSU again 18 to 2. OU gets the ball first and takes all the momentum of the game right off the bat. Using their perfected hurry up offense they grind SWOSU’s defense down until there is two touchdowns under OU’s belt.
OU 14, SWOSU 0
With under 5 minutes left in the first quarter SWOSU finally gets on the board with a field goal.
OU 14, SWOSU 3
On the ensuing kickoff the OU kick returner bobbles the ball and is forced to land on it in OU’s own end zone giving a safety to SWOSU.
OU 14, SWOSU 5
The first quarter ends with the momentum suddenly swinging in favor of SWOSU.
SWOSU’s offense comes roaring back in the second quarter but OU’s defense keeps them out of the end zone for 15 minutes. SWOSU’s defense is suddenly firing on all cylinders and holds OU to just a field goal in the 2nd quarter.
OU 17, SWOSU 5
The second gun sounds as the second quarter come to an end. This game is certainly much closer than the scoreboard is showing. The second half will be posted tomorrow. OU is looking to make their 13th consecutive trip to the Hammer Bowl (Championship) while SWOSU is trying to pull, what would be, the biggest upset in Hammer Tournament history.
